hey. wanna watch me learn?

this is a place where i’ll be writing some songs and journalling / documenting / critiquing my current processes, in order to (hopefully) get better at making songs, because i want to do it forever.

it’s called portuguese radio because this is the current working title of my band, Casual Fan’s next collection of songs. more on that later.

in preparation for this upcoming record, i am needing to write some songs.

rather than wait for them to float into my consciousness which does happen from time to time, i will be consciously learning and aiming to intentionally educate myself by attempting to write at least one song every week until i don’t feel like i need to do that any more. people at my university call this PBL - project based learning.

project based learning is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging, and complex question, problem, or challenge.

yeah so that’s the goal - responding to the challenge of wanting to create a meaningful and interesting body of work, using my band’s upcoming record to frame a pursuit of intentional education in the work of making songs.

in my head i have some arbitrary goal of having fifty songs written for the aforementioned record before we begin working on it as a band and i think there’s like 15 songs in the google drive as of tonight.

thus, it seems we shall be here a little while.
